About Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo
Turibius, born in Spain in 1538 and trained as a jurist, was still a layman when appointed archbishop of Lima. He traveled vast Andean territories, learned Indigenous languages, convened reforming councils, established a seminary, and insisted that native peoples deserved pastoral care and protection from colonial abuse. He died during visitation in 1606.
