About Saint Nicholas Owen
Nicholas Owen was an English Jesuit lay brother and skilled carpenter who built ingenious hiding places for priests during Elizabethan persecution. Small in stature and often working alone, he protected many lives for decades. Captured after the Gunpowder Plot, he was tortured and died in the Tower of London in 1606 without revealing others.
