About Saint Oscar Romero
Oscar Romero, born in 1917, became archbishop of San Salvador amid escalating repression and violence. The murder of priests and laypeople deepened his public defense of the poor, human rights, and nonviolence. While celebrating Mass in a hospital chapel on March 24, 1980, he was assassinated. The Church honors him as a martyr.
