About Saint Sophronius of Jerusalem

Sophronius, born around 560 near Damascus, traveled widely as a monk and scholar before becoming patriarch of Jerusalem in 634. He defended the teaching that Christ possesses a truly human will as well as a divine will. His sermons illuminate Jerusalem’s liturgy, and he guided the city’s Christians through conquest and political upheaval.
