About Saint Robert of Molesme
Robert, born around 1028 in Champagne, became a Benedictine abbot seeking a stricter observance of the Rule. After founding Molesme, he joined a small group at Cîteaux in 1098, helping begin the community from which the Cistercian Order developed. Church authorities later required him to return and reform Molesme, where he died in 1111.
