About Saint Richard the Pilgrim
An eighth-century source records that the unnamed father of Willibald and Winebald left Wessex with his sons on pilgrimage and died at Lucca around 720. Later devotion called him Richard and also remembered him as father of Walburga. Because his name and royal status come from later tradition, firm biographical claims remain limited.
