About Saint Paul the First Hermit

According to Saint Jerome’s influential early account, Paul fled persecution in third-century Egypt and lived for decades in a desert cave, clothed in woven palm leaves and sustained by prayer. Near the end of his long life, Anthony the Great visited him. Historical details are limited, but Paul became an enduring model of eremitical dedication.
