About Saint Dismas

Dismas is the traditional name given to the repentant criminal crucified beside Jesus in Luke’s Gospel. He acknowledged his own guilt, defended Jesus’ innocence, and asked to be remembered when Christ came into his kingdom. Jesus promised that he would be with him in paradise. Scripture itself does not supply the man’s name.

Prayer

Pray with Saint Dismas

Merciful God, your Son opened paradise to the repentant criminal remembered as Saint Dismas. Through his intercession, give hope to prisoners and the dying, move us to honest repentance, and keep us from deciding that anyone is beyond your mercy. Amen.
