About Saint Nuno Álvares Pereira
Nuno Álvares Pereira was a Portuguese commander whose leadership helped secure his country’s independence in the late fourteenth century. Known for prayer, restraint, and care for defeated enemies, he used his wealth for charitable foundations. After his wife’s death and his children were settled, he entered the Carmelite house he had founded and served humbly there.
