About Saint Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe honors Mary’s apparitions to Juan Diego at Tepeyac in 1531 and the image preserved on his tilma. Addressing him tenderly and appearing with Indigenous and biblical symbols, Mary became a sign of Christ’s nearness amid conquest, cultural upheaval, and evangelization. Her shrine is now a great center of prayer for the Americas.
