About Pope Saint Damasus I
Damasus led the Roman church from 366 to 384 through disputed election and intense theological controversy. He promoted the Nicene faith, commissioned Jerome to revise Latin biblical texts, and honored Rome’s martyrs with carefully engraved inscriptions at their tombs. His support helped preserve both Scripture and the memory of witnesses whose graves had been neglected.
