About Saint Mark the Evangelist
The New Testament names John Mark as a Jerusalem Christian connected with Peter, Paul, and Barnabas; after an early missionary rupture, he later became a valued coworker. Ancient tradition identifies him as author of the Gospel according to Mark and founder of the church in Alexandria. His symbol is the winged lion.
