About Saint Lawrence of Rome
Lawrence was one of Rome’s seven deacons under Pope Sixtus II and helped administer the Church’s material aid. He was martyred during Emperor Valerian’s persecution in 258, days after Sixtus. Later tradition says Lawrence identified people in poverty as the Church’s true treasure and died upon a gridiron.

God of the poor, through Saint Lawrence’s intercession, make us trustworthy stewards of the Church’s resources. Give deacons courage, strengthen persecuted believers, and teach us to recognize your greatest treasures in vulnerable people. Amen.
