About Saint Clare of Assisi
Clare left her noble Assisi household to follow Christ in the way opened by Francis. At San Damiano she led the Poor Ladies, later called Poor Clares, in prayer, sisterhood, work, and radical poverty. She secured papal approval for her own Rule shortly before her death, preserving the community’s freedom from possessions.
