About Saint Katharine Drexel
Katharine Drexel, born into a wealthy Philadelphia family in 1858, dedicated her inheritance and life to confronting racial injustice through Catholic education. She founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to serve Native American and Black communities, supported many schools and missions, and established Xavier University of Louisiana, the nation’s first Catholic historically Black university.
