About Saint Chad of Mercia
Chad, formed in the Irish monastic tradition, served briefly as bishop in Northumbria before humbly yielding when Archbishop Theodore judged his ordination irregular. Theodore later appointed him bishop of Mercia, centered at Lichfield. Chad traveled on foot to preach, governed gently, and died during an epidemic in 672 after only a short episcopate.
