About Saint Kateri Tekakwitha
Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 to a Mohawk father and Algonquin mother in present-day New York. Orphaned and scarred by smallpox, she was baptized at twenty and later moved to the mission at Kahnawake. There she practiced devoted prayer, cared for others, and lived her Christian vocation within an Indigenous community.
