John Vianney persevered through disrupted schooling and academic difficulty to become the parish priest of Ars in France. Through simple preaching, austere prayer, care for families, and many hours hearing confessions, he helped renew a spiritually indifferent village. The Church honors him as patron of parish priests and a witness to patient pastoral love.
