About Saint John Neumann
John Neumann, born in Bohemia in 1811, emigrated to the United States to serve immigrant Catholics and joined the Redemptorists. As bishop of Philadelphia, he organized the nation’s first diocesan Catholic school system, established parishes for different language communities, and promoted Forty Hours Eucharistic devotion. He lived with notable simplicity.
