About Saint John Gualbert
John Gualbert, a Florentine nobleman, abandoned vengeance after forgiving his brother’s killer on Good Friday. He entered monastic life and eventually founded the Vallombrosan community, seeking disciplined prayer, poverty, and reform. John and his monks became outspoken opponents of simony, the buying and selling of Church offices.
