About Saint John de Brébeuf
John de Brébeuf was a French Jesuit who spent many years among the Huron-Wendat people in seventeenth-century New France. He learned their language, compiled linguistic work, and shared Christian teaching amid disease, warfare, and profound cultural disruption. Captured during an Iroquois raid in 1649, he endured torture and death with remarkable courage.
