About Saint John Climacus
John Climacus lived as a monk at Mount Sinai from the late sixth into the seventh century and eventually became abbot of Saint Catherine’s monastery. His Ladder of Divine Ascent organizes monastic growth through thirty stages, from renunciation and repentance toward prayer and love. Eastern Christians continue to read it especially during Lent.
