About Saint Berthold of Mount Carmel
Berthold is associated with the first Latin hermits living on Mount Carmel in the twelfth century. The Roman Martyrology remembers a former soldier who joined the brothers, became their prior, and entrusted the community to Mary. Later Carmelite accounts add details about his origins and long leadership that cannot be independently confirmed.
