About Saint John Baptist de La Salle
John Baptist de La Salle, born in Reims in 1651, was a priest who organized teachers into the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He directed his wealth toward schools for poor boys, formed teachers in community, promoted instruction in the spoken language rather than only Latin, and developed classroom practices that transformed modern education.
