About Saint James the Greater
James, son of Zebedee and brother of John, was among the first disciples called by Jesus. He witnessed the Transfiguration and accompanied Christ in Gethsemane. Acts records that Herod Agrippa had him killed by the sword, making him the first Apostle whose martyrdom is narrated in Scripture. Later tradition connects him with Spain.

God of courageous disciples, through Saint James’s intercession, free us from selfish ambition and teach us Christ’s way of service. Strengthen pilgrims, sustain persecuted Christians, and keep us faithful when witness becomes costly. Amen.
