About Saint Ildefonsus of Toledo
Ildefonsus, born around 607, became a monk and abbot before serving as archbishop of Toledo in Visigothic Spain. He wrote influential works defending Mary’s perpetual virginity and strengthened Toledo’s liturgical life. A beloved later tradition tells that Mary appeared and presented him with a chasuble in gratitude for his teaching.
