About Saint Hilary of Arles
Hilary left an honored life in fifth-century Gaul to join the monastery at Lérins, then succeeded his relative Honoratus as bishop of Arles. Known for austere habits, preaching, and care for the poor, he also entered jurisdictional disputes with Pope Leo I. He died around 449 and was venerated locally as a saint.
