About Saint Florian

Florian was a Roman military officer in Noricum, in present-day Austria, who openly confessed Christianity during the persecution under Emperor Diocletian. Early tradition says he was drowned in the Enns River around 304 after refusing to sacrifice. He became a patron of firefighters and protection from destructive flames.
