About Saint Erasmus of Formia
Erasmus, also called Elmo, is venerated as an early fourth-century bishop and martyr associated with Formia in southern Italy. Historical evidence about his life is limited, and vivid accounts of his tortures are later legend. Medieval sailors invoked him for protection, linking his name with the electrical glow called Saint Elmo’s fire.
