About Saint Ephrem the Syrian
Ephrem was a fourth-century Syriac deacon, biblical teacher, poet, and hymn writer from Nisibis who later served in Edessa. Called the Harp of the Holy Spirit, he used rich scriptural imagery to teach orthodox faith. During famine he organized relief, and tradition says he died while caring for plague victims in 373.
