About Saint Cyprian of Carthage
Cyprian was a prosperous rhetorician in Roman North Africa before conversion led him to baptism, priesthood, and election as bishop of Carthage. He guided Christians through persecution, plague, and fierce disputes about reconciliation after apostasy. Insisting on the Church’s unity and pastoral mercy, he was beheaded for refusing sacrifice to the emperor in 258.
