About Saint Cuthbert

Cuthbert, born around 634, became a monk at Melrose, a traveling missionary in Northumbria, prior of Lindisfarne, and finally bishop. Drawn repeatedly to solitude, he lived as a hermit on Inner Farne while remaining available to those seeking counsel and healing. He died in 687 and became northern England’s most beloved medieval saint.

Prayer

Pray with Saint Cuthbert

God of creation and contemplation, you led Saint Cuthbert between solitary prayer and tireless care for your people. Through his intercession, renew ministers who are weary, teach us reverence for living creatures, and make silence deepen our service. Amen.
