About Saint Bede the Venerable

Bede was an eighth-century English Benedictine monk, priest, teacher, and scholar at Wearmouth-Jarrow. His Ecclesiastical History remains a foundational source for early English Christianity, while his biblical commentaries, chronology, hymns, and scientific works served monastic learning. He died in 735 while completing a translation of John’s Gospel.
