About Saint Barbara
Barbara has been venerated widely as a virgin martyr of the early Church, especially by miners, artillery workers, and people facing sudden death. Her familiar story of a tower, three windows, and execution by her father comes from much later texts, and historians cannot verify her biography. Her enduring image expresses courage under confinement and threat.
