About Saint Sabas
Sabas left Cappadocia as a young man for monastic life in Palestine and spent years learning solitude, prayer, and manual work. He gathered hermits in the Kidron Valley and founded the Great Lavra later called Mar Saba. Though devoted to silence, he traveled when necessary to defend Church teaching and advocate for communities burdened by imperial policy.
Prayer
Pray with Saint Sabas
God of the desert, through Saint Sabas’s intercession, sustain monks, hermits, and Christians of the Holy Land. Teach us when to seek silence and when to speak publicly, and make disciplined prayer fruitful for others. Amen.
