About Saint Francis Xavier
Francis Xavier met Ignatius of Loyola in Paris and became one of the first Jesuits. Sent east in 1541, he served in India, the Malay world, and Japan, learning languages imperfectly but tirelessly catechizing, baptizing, and organizing local communities. He died on Shangchuan Island while awaiting entry into China, still desiring to carry the Gospel farther.
