About Saint Arsenius the Great

Arsenius was remembered as a learned Roman who left service at the imperial court for the Egyptian desert. Among the Desert Fathers of Scetis, he became renowned for disciplined silence, solitude, tears, and prayer. Sayings attributed to him warn that careless speech can scatter the interior attention needed to remain before God.

Prayer

Pray with Saint Arsenius the Great

God who speaks in silence, through Saint Arsenius’s intercession, quiet our restless words and scattered attention. Give us solitude without isolation, listening without indifference, and prayer that returns us to others with wisdom and compassion. Amen.
