About Saint Elijah the Prophet
Elijah was a biblical prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during the ninth century before Christ. He confronted royal idolatry, defended the worship of the Lord on Mount Carmel, received food through a poor widow, and encountered God in a gentle whisper at Horeb. Scripture says he was taken up in a fiery chariot.
