About Saint Apollonia
Apollonia was an elderly Christian woman of Alexandria seized during anti-Christian riots around 249. In a letter preserved by Eusebius, Bishop Dionysius reports that attackers broke her teeth and threatened to burn her unless she denied Christ. She remained steadfast and died in the fire, becoming patroness of those with dental suffering.
