About Saint Anthony the Great
Anthony, born in Egypt around 251, gave away his inheritance and sought God in desert solitude. His disciplined prayer, spiritual discernment, and struggle against temptation attracted disciples and helped shape Christian monasticism. Athanasius’s Life of Anthony spread his influence widely, although Anthony himself remained a lay monk devoted to Scripture and manual work.

God of freedom, you led Saint Anthony into the desert to confront temptation and seek you wholeheartedly. Through his intercession, strengthen us against habits that enslave, teach us wise discernment, and make silence, Scripture, and work paths to deeper love. Amen.
