About Saint Agnes of Rome

Agnes was a young Roman Christian killed during an early fourth-century persecution, probably under Diocletian. Ancient testimony from Ambrose and others praises her consecrated virginity and fearless refusal to abandon Christ. Her name became associated with the Latin word for lamb, and a major basilica arose over her tomb outside Rome.
