About Pope Saint Hilary
Before becoming pope, Hilary served as a Roman deacon and papal representative at the turbulent Council of Ephesus in 449, escaping after opposing its coercive proceedings. As pope from 461 to 468, he strengthened Church discipline in Gaul and Spain and built chapels and a library at Rome’s Lateran baptistery.
