Pierced for Us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with a contrite heart I offer you this prayer. Make my heart humble and patient like your own. Let me live in you and for you, so that whatever I do this day may be done out of love. Receive me into your Heart, and keep me there. Amen.

However, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

We honor the Heart of Jesus because it was opened for us. The spear that pierced his side revealed what had been true all along: a love that holds nothing back. The wound in his Heart is not a sign of defeat but the very door through which his life pours out to save us.

Wounded Heart of Jesus, you let yourself be pierced so that your love could reach me. Hide me within your open Heart, and let the blood and water that flowed from it cleanse and heal me. When my own heart is wounded, teach me to bring my wounds to yours, where they can be transformed into love. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
