Christ in the Sick

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Merciful God, you called St. Pio of Pietrelcina to serve Christ as a Capuchin priest and to spend himself for souls. Through his intercession, draw me closer to the Eucharist, reconciliation, and faithful prayer. Give me patience in suffering, compassion for the sick, and confidence in your grace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.

Padre Pio's care for suffering people took practical form in a hospital intended to unite skill with human dignity. Prayer for healing and responsible medical care are not rivals; both can express love for the whole person. Jesus receives every attentive visit and concrete act of care as offered to him.

Jesus, present in the sick, bless those who need healing and those who care for them. Give wisdom to clinicians, endurance to families, and comfort to patients. Through St. Pio's intercession, show me one practical way to lessen another person's burden. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
