United with the Crucified Christ

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Merciful God, you called St. Pio of Pietrelcina to serve Christ as a Capuchin priest and to spend himself for souls. Through his intercession, draw me closer to the Eucharist, reconciliation, and faithful prayer. Give me patience in suffering, compassion for the sick, and confidence in your grace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.

Padre Pio bore the stigmata and other suffering, but Christian faith never seeks pain for its own sake. Its meaning comes from union with Jesus, who loved us and gave himself for us. What cannot yet be removed may still be placed in Christ's hands and joined to his love for the world.

Crucified Jesus, meet me in the suffering I would never have chosen. Protect me from despair and from pretending pain is easy. Through St. Pio's intercession, unite what I endure to your self-giving love and guide me toward every help and healing you provide. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
