Passed from Death to Life

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your servants the forgiveness of all their sins. Through our prayers may they obtain the mercy they have always desired. By the merits of your Son's death and resurrection, lead them out of every shadow and into your perfect light. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and doesn't come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

For those who hear Christ's word and believe, death is not a leap into condemnation but a passage from death into life. We pray for the souls being purified, asking that God's mercy, and not strict justice, would be the measure applied to them. We trust the One who promised that whoever believes has already crossed over into life.

Lord, you promised that whoever hears your word and believes has passed from death into life. Apply that promise to the souls I love. Do not weigh them by strict justice but by your mercy, and let the merits of your Son cover all that they lacked. Bring them safely across into the life that has no end. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
