The Resurrection and the Life

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your servants the forgiveness of all their sins. Through our prayers may they obtain the mercy they have always desired. By the merits of your Son's death and resurrection, lead them out of every shadow and into your perfect light. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

Jesus does not merely give life; he is the resurrection and the life. To the grieving sisters at the tomb of Lazarus, and to us, he speaks the same words. The souls we love are not in the hands of fate or oblivion but in the hands of the One who is Life itself, and who has promised that those who believe in him will live.

Lord Jesus, you are the resurrection and the life. I place the souls I love into your hands, for you are Life itself, and in you they will live. Speak your word of life over them and call them out of every shadow into your light. Raise them up, and one day raise me with them. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
