About Saint Richard of Chichester
Richard de Wych, born around 1197, studied at Oxford, Paris, and Bologna before becoming bishop of Chichester. King Henry III initially blocked his appointment and seized diocesan revenues, so Richard ministered from parish homes until restored. He reformed clergy, defended Church freedom, served the poor personally, and died in 1253 while preaching a crusade.
