About Saint Juan Diego
Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin was an Indigenous Chichimeca Christian associated with Mary’s 1531 apparitions at Tepeyac. According to the earliest developed account, he carried Castilian roses in his tilma to Bishop Zumárraga, revealing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Tradition remembers his humility, persistence, and later service as caretaker near the shrine.
