About Saint José Gregorio Hernández
José Gregorio Hernández was a Venezuelan physician, scientist, professor, and lay Catholic renowned for treating poor patients without charge. After discerning but not completing religious life, he understood medicine and teaching as his vocation. Killed in a traffic accident in Caracas in 1919, he became a national symbol of compassionate healthcare and was canonized in 2025.
